Gemma:

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Lisa:

I am a teacher at Aurora Grove P.S. I have 2 children aged 11 and 8 and a wonderful husband. I'm a real foodie and love good, healthy, food. We don't eat out much, maybe once a month. Instead I like to cook and my 8 year old loves cooking too. She just made homemade gnocchi and fettuccini with her grandma, it was delicious!

Gemma:

What is your favourite food to eat or make?

Lisa:

I love making my spaghetti and meatballs. We make our own tomato sauce and can it ourselves. It is delicious! My favourite food to eat is a good salad. I like to make it colourful with radicchio, endive, romaine, green onions and other colourful ingredients.

Gemma:

What is your ideal day out with the family?

Lisa:

My ideal day would begin with a walk in Sheppard's Bush or the Henderson Drive Forest. This time of year is great for tobogganing so we would have fun doing that followed by a good meal and a hot chocolate.

Gemma:

Who is your inspiration?

Lisa:

I would say seeing so many unwell people is an inspiration to be healthier. It inspired me to live a long and healthy life. Joy Maccarthy , Meghan Livingstone and Marni Wasserman are inspirations with great simple recipes we love to use.

Gemma:

What makes Aurora special to you?

Lisa:

We love Aurora. We have been here for 10 years. It has that small town feel, but with all the amenities of a bigger place. There are so many opportunities, with so many sports and community centres at your finger tips. Then there is the Healthy Kids Community Challenge and Activate Aurora that is going on. The schools are great and there is so much nature within walking distance from your house.

Gemma:

Where is your favourite place in Aurora to be healthy?

Lisa:

Salamander Pond is amazing for skating on, which is right by the Henderson Drive Forest. My son loves it there and will spend hours out on the ice.

Be a Healthy Kids Ambassador

Throughout the year we will be featuring someone from the community who serves as a great example for our children by keeping active and eating healthy.

If you know somebody who would make a great Healthy Kids Ambassador — please submit their name for consideration.
