Healthy Kids Aurora Ambassadors

Meet our latest Healthy Kids Ambassador August 2017

Erin

Aurora, Ontario

Royden our healthy kids Ambassador

Erin is an Aurora resident and mother of two, with a lengthy career in fitness and active living. She has worked for a number of sport and healthy living organizations and initiatives, including ParaSport Ontario, the Ontario Games and Canada Games, and currently, Activate Aurora. Through her example and work in the community, she encourages people of all ages to get moving and stay healthy!

Kathleen:

What does your family love most about living in Aurora?

Erin:

We love our community where families are out riding their bikes, playing street hockey, and at the playgrounds. The community itself has so much to offer — the Farmer's Market (our Saturday morning ritual), Nature Play pop-ups, and lots of sports and Town events, such as Concerts in the Park and Easter Egg Hunts.

Kathleen:

What types of activities do you enjoy with your kids to get them moving?

Erin:

We love to enjoy the trails, ride bikes, visit new playgrounds, play basketball, road hockey or catch in our driveway, and walk or bike to and from school. We also have water fights and play tag!

Kathleen:

What are some of your favourite things to cook and eat with your family?

Erin:

Fresh fruits and veggies from the Farmer's Market — very yummy. We mix the fruit with yogurt for breakfast or snacks, and we also love to make homemade pizza.

Kathleen:

How do you feel you can impact the community in a positive way?

Erin:

By living a healthy and active lifestyle, I hope that it becomes a norm for others in the community, as well as through continuing to work on initiatives such as Activate Aurora.

Kathleen:

What are some of the changes you would love to see in Aurora over the next five years that would support healthy lifestyles?

Erin:

It would be great to make healthy food choices a permanent option in our community centres. Another parent in the community mentioned setting up stationary bikes at sports fields and community centres so parents can ride while watching their kids play sports — this would be a great option!

Be a Healthy Kids Ambassador

Throughout the year we will be featuring someone from the community who serves as a great example for our children by keeping active and eating healthy.

If you know somebody who would make a great Healthy Kids Ambassador — please submit their name for consideration.
